Patriot Act Amendment

The Patriot Act Amendment expands the government's authority to impose heavy criminal penalties for otherwise uncontrolled exports (IRB No. 352, January 9, 2007. The Government has the authority to impose these criminal penalties for "knowing" violations of "any" regulation pertaining to an export or potential export - even when an export license is not required for the export or when the regulation is not an export control regulation.
To avoid potentially significant criminal exposure, exporters must abide by "all laws and regulations" for all shipments.
