Japan Update

(March 14, 2011)

We have received word from our agencies in Japan that most of the offices and warehouses are in tact, and staff and families are safe. We understand that the major airport in Tokyo (Narita International) is open for business, as of today. The airport in Sendai, the city hit directly by the tsunami, remained closed but officials hope to open it soon for desperately needed relief flights.

Reports indicate that Japanese ports and airports suffered minor damage that hit the northeastern part of Japan. Although some ships ran aground, they suffered relatively minor damage. The Port of Tokyo and the Port of Yokohama, the country's largest and second-largest container ports, suffered no serious damage.

The aftershocks continue and our agency families throughout Japan continue to deal with unstable conditions, as well as scheduled power outages each day. These outages are not at set times, so the staff is advising us of limited e-mails at times, and will keep us posted of their status and any shipment concerns.

We are thankful for the safety of our fellow agents in Japan and continue to send our thoughts and prayers to those in harms way from this terrible disaster.

Should you have a shipment in progress to/from this region, please be sure to contact your move manager here at the home office to receive the latest information.
