Air Freight Delays Holiday Schedules
(November 16, 2009)
We are sending to help prepare you and your customers for possible shipment delays through the end of the year, specifically regarding air freight shipments. Today, the economy is one reason that air carriers have been forced to downsize their equipment while the demand continues to increase. Due to the Holidays and other factors, a backlog results delaying shipments. Therefore, with reduced capacity and increased demand, we have also seen rates climb higher which, again, is also normal for this time of year. We hope you find this information helpful and a way to communicate shipment delays with your customers.
Air Freight Backlog in Asia:
Please be advised that the peak season of the air freight market is upon us now through the end of the year. We have been advised of the following backlog in Asia:
- Hong Kong Airport - Freight backlog is over 5,000 tons and growing
- Shanghai Airport - Over 7,500 tons
- North China Airport(s) - cargo is on-hold for more than 14 days
Holiday Shipments:
During this time of the year, frequently customers will ship Christmas presents in air or ocean shipments expecting delivery before Christmas. If your orders were projected close to Christmas, it would be advisable to provide your customer with an updated arrival date. Also, it would be advisable to communicate with your Destination Agent and ensure the delivery expectation. The Holiday season is upon us and we want to do whatever we can to meet and exceed expectations, not to disappoint.
We are paying close attention to this issue and will keep being as proactive as possible. Please contact your move manager or any UniGroup Worldwide UTS member of management if you have any questions.
