International Packing and Transit Time
(October 4, 2001)
Recent events have brought about heightened security measures and have altered certain operating procedures which affect international air and ocean transportation. Our partners, service crews and customers should be aware of these important considerations when preparing shipments with an international destination.
- UniGroup Worldwide will not accept for international shipment cartons that have been packed and sealed by the customer. All owner-packed cartons (PBOs) must be left open for inspection by the packing crew prior to loading into a shipping container. A crew member must inspect the PBO cartons, accurately describe the contents on the shipment inventory, and seal the cartons.
- Longer transit times for air freight shipments should be expected because of increased airport security and reductions in scheduled flights. This inconvenience may become more pronounced during the end of year holiday season. We recommend that customers be advised to ship holiday packages as early as practical with the understanding that transit times are uncertain and guaranteed delivery dates cannot, for the time being, be offered.
- Here is a partial list of prohibited items. The information is offered as a reminder and should be reviewed with operations and sales staffs so that customers can be advised before the packing date:
