Management System and Software

Logistics operates modular designed software from a leading distributorship system provider as its base with many customized and proprietary enhancements. This software company is a premier supplier of distributorship software to over 5,000 manufacturers and distributors throughout the world. Logistics has built customized web technology to provide its customers complete visibility to purchase order, inventory, and sales order detail. This system is used primarily for inventory orders when there is a need for item tracking at the stock-keeping unit (SKU) level in a warehouse and in-transit.

In October 2003, we purchased a Transportation Management System (TMS) from a leading software provider. The TMS maintains tariffs and pricing schedules for Logistics' carriers, service providers, and customers. It also contains an optimizer to reduce customer cost and improve transit time. The TMS is connected to the order management system so inventory and transportation functions can be seamlessly executed.

The order-processing module will accept orders through manual keypunch or electronic transmission. It is flexible enough to process any type of order a customer would need to handle. There are two general types of orders; inventory orders or service orders.
  • Inventory Orders
This order type is used with the Inventory Management module. It allows a warehouse to process orders for parts and/or product that is held in storage. It controls the picking, packing, and shipping as well as decrements on-hand balances. If sales orders are created for items not in stock, the system creates a back-order so we can notify the customer that more products are required.

  • Service Orders
This order type is used when services are provided such as assembly, general labor, installation, storage, etc. Service activity can be stand-alone items on an order or on the same order as inventory is listed.

This module tracks all types of inventory. It covers serialized and non-serialized product as well as spare parts and raw material. To assure inventory and data quality, it has many edits and tables that can be set specific to each customer. The inventory can be updated through bar coding or data entry.

This module provides the physical locator function in support of the Inventory module. It supports pallet racking, shelving, bins, carousels, and any combination. It can control the location of any commodity in any unit of measure. This is not a WMS (warehouse management system).

This module interfaces with the inventory control and order entry modules. It allows Logistics to duplicate customer purchase orders so the POs can be administered and balances tracked. When receipts are processed into the warehouse, the PO balances are affected as inventory is created. This enables Logistics to report the receipt and allows the customer to pay its suppliers in a timely fashion. The TMS accepts transportation orders either electronically through the order management system or data entry. Based on origin, destination, commodities, and service requirements, the TMS can select the optimal carrier(s) for the move or group of moves. Through a series of tables and flags, the system can be configured for almost any rate structure, unit of measure, geographic zone, and price schedule. LTL shipments are combined into multi-stop truckloads or larger LTL shipments across our customers to reduce customer cost and accelerate service. Aggregation and pool distribution services are also optimized to leverage the value of Logistics' national network of local distribution agents.
